The dimensions of the Borough provided carts are 21 in. x 19 in. x 37 in. The Borough is continuing with the previous collection companies weight limit of 40 pounds trash/recycling per container. At the regular rate this provides the capacity of 120 pounds of trash and 120 pounds of recycling per week.

Yes, all borough supplied carts will be equipped with both wheels and a hinged lid. Additional carts are available for purchase by inquiring through the Customer Relations Department. Regular service customers are permitted to have containers up to 55-gallons each as long as they meet all other container specifications. However, one (1) of containers placed at the pickup location must be the Borough provided cart

Under Section 1202 of the PA Borough Code, all boroughs are specifically required to collect trash and recycling and to charge reasonable fees for this service. A borough can do this by either undertaking this service itself or by hiring an outside firm(s) to handle this work. Quakertown Borough is operating in accordance with the Borough Code when it decided to collect trash and recycling using Borough personnel and equipment and to charge its residents directly for this service. The Borough providing trash and recycling is more efficient than contracting the service.

A senior program participant may only utilize the Borough-provided 32-gallon cart for trash. The Borough will also provide a senior program participant one (1)-32-gallon cart for recycling. A maximum of two (2) additional recycling container are permitted. Extra recycling containers may be up to 55-gallons. 

No, additional containers can be bought anywhere as long as they meet the container specifications of a capacity no larger than 55-gallons and having a lid(removable or attached is required). All containers must be covered at time of collection.

Yes, the Borough will provide each residential utility customer with one (1)-32 gallon trash cart and one (1)-32 gallon recycling cart. Any residential properties with 4 or more rental units must provide its own commercial trash and recycling service.

Grass Clippings:
No, the Sanitation Department will NOT accept grass clippings because they are prohibited by the landfill. Grass clippings should be left on the lawn to decompose and act as a natural organic fertilizer. Please see the website for further information on grass clippings.

Yard Waste (Branches, Brush, Twigs, etc.):
Yes, yard waste will be collected during the 3rd full week of the month on your scheduled collection day. Branches have to be bundled and tied, no longer 48” and not heavier than 40 lbs. Branch drop off and leaf collection will occur during regularly scheduled dates and times.

The monthly rate includes both trash and recycling collection. PA Act 101 mandates that the Borough provides a recycling program with residential collection.

The Borough’s cost to process recyclable materials is approximately double the cost of the disposal of trash.

The Sanitation Department will begin Christmas Tree Recycling the Tuesday after Christmas (December 26th) on your scheduled collection day. Christmas Tree Recycling will run through Friday, January 19th, 2024. Please note trees will be collected in a separate Borough vehicle after completing the daily trash and recycling route.

• Trees over 6 ft. tall must be cut down
• Trees must be completely free of all decorations including tinsel, ornaments, and lights
• Do not bag your trees, so they can be recycled properly
