The Traffic Safety Unit's objective is to reduce the number of traffic crashes and injuries while working to aid the safe and expeditious flow of vehicular and pedestrian traffic. This objective is accomplished with a combination of strategic planning, education, and enforcement which include the following:

  • Enforcement of speed on the roadways
  • Prevention/enforcement of drunk driving
  • Commercial vehicle inspection/weighing
  • Improve safe pedestrian travel
  • Accident Reconstruction
  • Impounding vehicles

The goal is to make the roadways safer, reduce the number of DUI crashes, remove dangerous vehicles/drivers from our roadways, and reduce the number of pedestrian accidents.

The Traffic Safety Unit conducts speed checks, speed studies, crash studies, traffic calming studies, and makes recommendations to the Borough or State.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation assigns points to certain traffic violations. The list of these traffic violations and points can be found here:
