The Quakertown Police Department’s Motorcycle Patrol started in 2007. It is used in conjunction with the regular patrol units and for special events. The Motorcycle Patrol Unit is extremely effective in maneuvering through traffic and pedestrian congestion. The Police Department currently has one motorcycle, which is well suited for traffic details and limited mobility events such as Community Day and National Night Out.
Three Officers, Officer Mark Watkins, Detective Jeffrey Boehm, and Officer Nicholas Filoon, are trained and certified to operate the motorcycle. The Motorcycle Patrol Unit carries most of the same equipment as the patrol cars, just in a smaller package. This includes speed timing equipment and medical supplies. A helmet speaker/microphone system is utilized to allow the officer to communicate with dispatch and other officers without taking either hand off of the handlebars. Motorcycle patrol is used when the weather permits the safe operation of the unit and when staffing is available.
