Freedom Park Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

  • Date: 08/28/2023 6:30 PM - 7:00 PM

The Quakertown Borough will be hosting a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the newly constructed Freedom Park on Monday, August 28th at 6:30pm. Freedom Park is located on the corner of S. Main Street and Moores Court. This is a passive mini park that features benches and space for residents to reflect.

About the Project

In April, Quakertown Borough Public Works Department finished the construction of Freedom Park, located on a tract of land on the Richard Moore House. In collaboration with the Quakertown Historical Society, Freedom Park was established as a dedication to Henry Franklin. Henry Franklin, who escaped slavery in 1837, relocated to Quakertown with his family and worked for Moore Pottery while performing Underground Railroad activities. He was a well-respected individual of Quakertown and was integral in the breakdown of racial prejudice in Bucks County. This park will allow community members the opportunity to reflect on the courage of men and women seeking freedom from slavery and the memory of the heroic work of freedom-loving men and women who worked toward the abolition of American slavery and sought ways to help them in their escape from slavery.
